Instructions for the JOBO ProTime 100

The JOBO ProTime 100 is a simple battery powered darkroom process timer with both visual and audio indication of all stages of process progress. It is shipped preprogrammed with nine popular darkroom processes that can be used as is, or easily modified to suit particular conditions. Each program consists of a pre-process step, up to six chemical steps, together with up to six wash or rinse steps.
2. Controls and Operating Elements
Open the battery cover on the rear of the instrument and insert a standard nine-volt battery. The JOBO ProTime 100 is now ready for use. The ProTime is fitted with a temporary memory which stores program settings even if the battery is exhausted and while it is being replaced.
4. Use with Pre-Programmed Process Steps
All the pre-programmed process steps are described in the Appendix in this manual. Review these and decide on which process number you wish to time. 3 bath E6, for instance, is program number three.
Selection of Program
Switch on the JOBO ProTime 100. First, the current program selected will be displayed for two seconds. Then the first step of that program is displayed with the ‘P’ symbol, indicating a pre-heat or pre-rinse. If this is the program you wish to use, skip the next operation.
Select the program you wish to use by keeping the START button pressed while repeatedly pressing either the UP or DOWN buttons until the desired program number is displayed. The display will then show the first stop ‘P’ of the program selected.
Start
Start the program by pressing START. The display will then count down from the programmed time, In addition, the unit will give audio signals as follows:
15 seconds before end of step: 4 short beeps
10 seconds before end of step: 3 short beeps
05 seconds before end of step: 2 short beeps, then one short beep at 4, 3, and 1 seconds before the end of the step.
Then:
When time is elapsed: 1 long beep
Every two seconds: 1 long beep up to 59 seconds after
Every minute: 1 long beep up to I hour after
If time is exceeded, a - sign is indicated.
Start of Next Process Stop
Press START to start the next process step (until the end of program). A ‘Ch’ symbol is displayed for a chemistry step and a ‘W’ for a wash or rinse step and the according time counts down.
Display of Program
To check the current program number while it is running, press both the UP and DOWN buttons at the same time.
At the end of the selected program, the display will show the program number and the word ‘End’ will flash on the display. In addition, the unit will give audio signals as follows:
Every ten seconds after program end: 3 beeps for 5 minutes
Every minute after program end: 1 beep
Press START to return to the first process step.
How to Skip Process Steps
To skip process steps keep START pressed continuously.
Reset
To reset the program while it is running, switch the unit off, then on again.
5. Programming of Individual Processes (Up To 199 Minutes)
Nine programs are available with the JOBO ProTime 100, and each program allows up to thirteen steps to be edited with the desired time in minutes and seconds up to a maximum of 199 minutes. This data is stored even if the battery needs to be replaced.
Selection of the Appropriate Program
Switch the unit on. The current program number is displayed for two seconds.
Then:
Press START and UP, and scroll programs upwards using the UP button
Or:
Press START and DOWN, and scroll programs downwards using the DOWN button
Modification of Processing Times
Processing times can only be modified when the program number is indicated:
Switch unit off, then on again while keeping START button pressed - this enters ‘set-mode’ - The program number is displayed for two seconds, then the time for the process step is indicated and the ‘min sec’ display will flash on and off
- To check the actual program number, press both the UP and the DOWN button at the same time
- Set time by using the UP or DOWN buttons. The time display will scroll automatically if the UP or DOWN button is kept depressed
- Set the time to 0:00 for any process steps not required
- To change from a 'W’ (wash) to a ‘ch’ (chemistry) step, press START
- To change to the next step, press START
- To store the time reading, press START
To exit SET mode: Switch unit off or complete entering of all thirteen steps
Note: the time is only stored in memory after pressing START, and this must be done after the last time entry.
6. Restoration of Pre-Programmed Settings
Note: Restoring pre-programmed settings this way will automatically cancel all previously set individual programs
- Switch off the JOBO, ProTime 100
- Press and hold both the UP and DOWN buttons while switching the unit on
- Display SET DEF
- Press START to restore pre-programmed settings

8. Special Functions
The JOBO ProTime 100 has a battery saving circuit that switches off the unit after one hour. Also, as a battery saving measure, the display backlight will automatically switch off five seconds after any key is pressed. When battery voltage falls below seven volts, a ‘BAT’ symbol indicates that battery should be replaced. The unit then needs to be reset by switching off, then back on again. All programmed settings are saved during replacement of battery.
9. Maintenance and Care
The ProTime 100 does not need any special maintenance. Just like any other precision measuring instrument, the ProTime, too, must be protected from excessive heat and humidity as well as shock.
